We want to make the Big Give web site work widely, to maximise impact for charities and donors. That means considering accessibility as we build, and which browser software can reasonably be made to work well.
There are some trade-offs here: we’re a small team and wide support takes time; sometimes our technology partners have their own limitations; and sometimes browser software is too old to be secure. When there is any question about these decisions, we always have to make our security the number one priority to keep everyone safe.
So what works?
Up to date versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge should work well, including on mobile.
Other modern browsers using similar technology aren’t explicitly tested, but usually work too.
If you are supporting donors who are having trouble, you may find the specific browser versions in this document useful. It has some technical details you can probably skip, but also sets out a best effort list of older browser versions that get a slower “tier 2” experience.
The vast majority of computers and phones should be able to get “tier 1” if they use a browser listed above, with automatic software updates enabled. For example, in early 2026, every Chrome & Safari version from the last 3 years got the fast lane (tier 1) Big Give experience.
When neither tier 1 nor tier 2 can work, we try our best to ensure visitors see a message explaining why they can’t use the site without switching browser or device.
