Big Give now allows charities to track aggregated performance of their digital marketing campaigns with the use of parameters. Data is provided through our analytics provider, Matomo.
To set up your tracking links for your campaign:
- In the Campaign Dashboard in the Charity Portal, go to the Marketing tab, where you will see the 18-digit ID for your campaign
- To create your marketing parameter, use that 18 digit campaign ID and the unique tracking code. The campaign ID must be at the start of your parameter.
- To add a parameter to your campaign URL, you need to add a ‘?utm_campaign=’ and then the marketing parameter, eg: ‘?utm_campaign=a056900002M4crFAAR-someEmail1`
- Data will be populated in the Marketing tab where you will be able to access it.
Here you can see an example from our test site:
- Blue is the main campaign URL
- Green is the campaign UTM
- Red is the unique code for your campaign

Points to note:
- Each URL with a marketing parameter must have minimum 3 visits in any given day for aggregated data to be collected, including in longer term aggregation across multiple days. (This is to help protect visitors’ privacy)
- All figures are approximate; browsers blocking Matomo may lead to data not being recorded.
- Visitors you refer who go on to donate to other charities’ campaigns may still show in your stats for the campaign corresponding to the code you used.
- Data is processed daily, by around 9am, covering the previous day.
- This is a new feature and there are no guarantees of its resilience for CC25, as we need to prioritise donation stability and pre-existing core features.
