If you make an eligible donation through Big Give and complete a valid Gift Aid declaration, Gift Aid may be claimed on your donation.
Gift Aid allows eligible charities to receive an additional 25p from HMRC for every £1 donated by an eligible UK taxpayer.
Does Big Give claim Gift Aid for charities?
Charities can either submit Gift Aid claims themselves or they can authorise Big Give to claim Gift Aid on their behalf.
If a charity wishes to authorise Big Give to claim Gift Aid for them:
- Log in to your Big Give account.
- Click on Account.
- Click Gift Aid.
- Complete the Gift Aid authorisation form (please note: the form must be completed by the person who is registered with HMRC as the charity’s Gift Aid authorised official.
Big Give can only claim Gift Aid on behalf of the charity from the point at which the required authorisation has been completed.
If a charity has not authorised Big Give to claim Gift Aid on its behalf, the charity will need to submit their own claims.
Is there a fee for Gift Aid claims?
Where a charity has authorised Big Give to claim Gift Aid on its behalf, a 3% administration fee is charged on the Gift Aid amount.
The admin fee will be deducted from your donations payout.
Gift Aid will be paid to you directly from HMRC.
When does Big Give submit Gift Aid claims?
Big Give submits Gift Aid claims to HMRC after the campaign has ended.
HMRC processing can take several weeks, so Gift Aid will not normally be paid to the charity at the same time as the original donation.
Is Gift Aid claimed on pledges?
No. Big Give does not claim Gift Aid on pledges.
Pledges are promises of match funding that are paid directly to the charity after the campaign rather than being processed as online donations through Big Give.
The charity would therefore need to determine separately whether a pledge payment is eligible for Gift Aid.
