The Cabinet Office supports the 2013 Big Give Christmas Challenge with a generous grant of £250,000
The Big Give Christmas Challenge has raised over £40 million for thousands of charities by doubling online donations from the public. Donations are doubled by charities’ major donors and Big Give ‘Charity Champions’ who include the Reed Foundation, ICAP, Candis and now the Cabinet Office.
Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society, said “The Big Give Christmas Challenge is a great match funding initiative which has already made a big difference for thousands of charities. We are proud to support them and the organisations who do such fantastic work”
The Cabinet Office supported 50 charities in 2013 and, alongside ‘pledges’ raised from these charities’ major donors, their funds helped to double donations to these charities in December. The unique matching model, which brings together government, companies, foundations, trustees and the public, means that the Cabinet Office funds were the catalyst for over £1 million of donations.
2013 was the very first time that the Big Give received such funding from the Cabinet Office. Sir Alec Reed CBE, Founder of the Big Give, said “I am delighted that the Cabinet Office has chosen to support the Christmas Challenge. The Challenge brings so many benefits to charities, donors and philanthropists and this has rightly been acknowledged by the Cabinet Office.”
