Big Give is delighted to be working with an esteemed panel of judges, helping us to decide on three outstanding charities to win our Big Photo Challenge awards.

The judging panel will now go away and choose the best charity photos for our shortlist.

So who are the judges joining us for the 2023 awards?

Nicola Arkell Reed

Nicola is an active philanthropist and trustee for Big Give. With an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins and a PGDip from Chelsea College of Art, UAL London, her interest in painting, beekeeping and photography has always inspired her to use photography as a tool to explore and research different subjects. Her close connections to non-profit organisations provide excellent background knowledge of what charitable impact means.

Roger Chapman

Roger is a directory of photography working in documentary, drama and commercials. With rich experience in documentary shooting and being a multi-award winner, including the Royal Television Society Award for Photography and the Guild of Television Cameraman Award of Excellence. Roger is also a Fellow with the Royal Photographic Society and, as a panel member on the awards committee, is well-versed in understanding what it takes to curate a captivating image.

Dan Hall

Dan is a talented up-and-coming photographer who kickstarted his career with a solo exhibition and photobook aged 17 titled ‘Eternal Youth’, with the money raised from print and book sales donated to Young Minds and Age UK. He is an experienced storyteller who creates images that evoke emotion from the viewer blurring the lines between fiction and documentary. 

Koo Stark 

Koo is a photographer and active patron of the Julia Margaret Cameron Trust, HH Dalai Lama Tibetan charities, Cancer Active, and the Fawcett Society.

Her Photographs have appeared in a variety of publications since 1982; she’s had over 30 Solo exhibitions and taught photographic workshops. Her work has been purchased for the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Museum of Chicago.

Koo has curated a number of exhibitions for charities, and judged competitions, including for Amateur Photographer, Olympus cameras, and the Independent newspaper. Her experience in charity and photography makes her an excellent judge of how photography can be used to express impact.

Amelia Troubridge

Amelia has worked as a photographer for three decades. The Author of three books, her work has been shown in galleries and museums and has been commissioned by many publications, including Vanity Fair, The NY Times and The Guardian. She has created imagery for a number of charities over the years, including WomenforWomen and The Elton John Aids Foundation.  Her rich experience in the field image making has given her a critical eye when choosing the best photos.

Constantin Kirwan Taylor 

Photographer and co-founder of NKT Studios, Constantin has worked with Big Give on a range of exciting projects, including our Christmas Challenge closing event. He makes an excellent addition to the judging panel due to his vast experience in professional photography.
