One of our favourite new traditions has been running the Big Photo Challenge, a celebration of the incredible work carried out by our charity partners, captured through powerful photography.

Since launching the awards, we’ve been amazed by the creativity, storytelling and heart in the images we’ve received. Your photos have helped bring Big Give campaigns to life, giving donors and supporters a deeper connection to the brilliant causes they are helping to fund.

Today, we’re sharing an update about the future of the Big Photo Challenge. From now on, the Big Photo Challenge will be held every two years instead of annually.

Why the change?

There are a few important reasons:

• Creating a bigger and better challenge: Thanks to your feedback, we see potential to expand and improve the Big Photo Challenge. Moving to a two-year cycle gives us the time to properly invest in making it bigger, better and even more impactful for participating charities.
• Maximising our resources: Big Give is a small but mighty team of just ten people! Adjusting the challenge timeline helps us allocate the time and resources it deserves, ensuring a smoother and more exciting experience for everyone involved.
• Celebrating and showcasing your work: Over the years, we’ve received a fantastic library of beautiful photos from charities. We want to do more to showcase these images, across our campaigns, social media, and communications, rather than rushing into a new cycle each year. A two-year window provides us with the space to properly celebrate your photography and spotlight your work.
• Supporting charities directly: The Big Photo Challenge has always been more than just a photo competition for us – it’s an opportunity for us to award grants from our own Anchor Match Fund to charities through your incredible photos. We want to ensure we can keep doing this in a way that’s meaningful, sustainable and impactful.

Ultimately, this change is about giving the Big Photo Challenge and the charities who take part the time, care, and visibility they deserve.
