At Big Give, we’re proud to have created the UK’s largest collaborative environmental fundraising campaign. In 2021, alongside our partners at Environmental Funders Network (EFN), we launched the Green Match Fund with a simple yet powerful idea: curate a portfolio of high-impact environmental charities and, for one week around World Earth Day, double public donations through match funding from generous philanthropists and funders.
Since its inception, the Green Match Fund has raised millions of pounds for charities working tirelessly to protect our planet. However, we recognise that the need for urgent environmental action continues to grow, and so must our ambition.
That’s why we’re thrilled to share the next step in our journey.
Introducing Earth Raise – A new era for environmental fundraising
In partnership with WaterBear, South Wind Blows, and EFN, Big Give is launching a bold new initiative: Earth Raise – a campaign designed to become the annual, defining moment for environmental fundraising in the UK.
Why Earth Raise? Because while public concern about climate change is high, 82% of Brits say they are worried about it (DESNZ Public Attitudes Tracker), charitable giving to environmental causes still lags behind. Less than 6% of public donations in the UK go toward environmental charities (CAF Giving Report 2023).
There’s also a clear gap in the market, with no national fundraising moment for the environment like there is for health or humanitarian causes. Earth Raise aims to change that, to mobilise public support, drive donations, and catalyse transformational change for our planet.
At Big Give, we believe we’re in a unique position to make this campaign a reality. With our connections to a brilliant range of impactful charities and organisations working in this space, and already running the biggest environmental match funding campaign, we hope that, in collaboration with others, we’ll be able to get this campaign off the ground.
We also know that environmental giving has unique power. As McKinsey & Company noted, it can deploy agile, flexible, and patient capital, supporting interventions that not only create direct impact but also unlock further funding from other sources.
However, many people who want to act just need the right moment, a spark to turn concern into action. Earth Raise will be that spark. Our new name signals a more public-facing, consumer-focused shift, an idea designed to ignite support for environmental charities at scale.
What this means for Green Match Fund charities
Over the coming months, you’ll notice changes as we transition from the Green Match Fund to Earth Raise. We’ll be updating our campaign materials, logos, and charity resources across Big Give’s platform.
What’s staying the same?
- The match funding campaign format will continue: a seven-day, online, match funding event aligned with Earth Day.
- The application process will remain the same, easy and accessible, with applications for the 2026 Earth Raise campaign opening later this year (we’ll share more details soon).
- The eligibility criteria will also stay the same, and we’ll keep you informed about any future updates.
In short, while the name and ambition are growing, your experience as a charity partner will remain just as smooth, rewarding, and impactful.
Earth Raise Live: the big launch
Launching on World Earth Day 2026, Earth Raise Live will be a landmark annual event, a powerful blend of cultural moments, inspiring stories and live music, designed to drive mass engagement and fundraising.
Through this exciting live event, we’ll invite the public to donate to any Earth Raise charity, with the promise that their donation will be doubled. It’s a powerful, emotional call to action, one that we hope will lead to unprecedented support for environmental causes.
Better yet, charities helping us launch Earth Raise Live 2026 can be spotlighted during the event itself – a huge opportunity to raise awareness of your work.
Get involved!
We’re looking for charity partners who want to help us make Earth Raise Live a huge success.
- Have connections with amazing artists, activists, or thought leaders?
- Know businesses or sponsors who would love to support a groundbreaking environmental cause?
- Have good media connections who may be interested in a partnership?
We’d love to hear from you. Your networks could make a real difference in helping Earth Raise reach new heights, and your charity could benefit directly from the increased exposure.
Send us an email at hello@biggive.org and let’s continue the conversation!
That’s all for now.
