What a way to end a fantastic record-breaking year!
After months of preparation and hard work by over 928 charities, here at the Big Give HQ, we couldn’t be more delighted to see just how well all of the charities have done in this year’s #ChristmasChallenge21!
Top Statistics from the 2021 campaign
- We raised a whopping £24,141,706 altogether! (a 20% increase on last year!)
- Of the 928 charities that took part this year, 80% of them reached or exceeded their overall fundraising target.
- Of that percentage, 27% of those charities were first-time Christmas Challenge participants!
- The average donation amount across all of the campaigns was £144
- The total number of donations received overall was 79,049
- The charity with the largest amount raised altogether was The Passage, with a fantastic £521,431 raised!
- #ChristmasChallenge21 was trending on Twitter for the first day of the campaign and celebrities such as Leona Lewis, Bear Grylls, Russell Brand, Stephen Fry, Helen Mirren, Jonny Wilkinson, Advolly Richmond, Richard E Grant and Peter Capaldi took to social media to promote charities participation.
Supporters Choice Award
This year we were excited to announce our new Supporters Choice Award category. This award was designed to raise awareness about the critical work every charity involved in #ChristmasChallenge21 does and why every donation received is so important.
Thank you to everyone who took part this year; we received hundreds of amazing messages! However, the one that stood out to us was by Zornitsar, meaning the charity that has won the Supporters Choice Award this year and will receive an extra £1000 towards their campaign is Pregnancy Sickness Support!
The message that inspired us:
“Today I am happy to say that a charity very close to my heart has surpassed their target Christmas donations and have been enrolled in a competition to win extra funding. Pregnancy Sickness Support is a charity which helped me fight the debilitating and life-threatening condition which is Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Little is known about this condition – I myself had only vaguely heard of it. I contacted PSS when I realised that something isn’t right with my pregnancy. They helped me realise I needed treatment and provided much needed guidance and information on how to manage this condition for which unfortunately there is no cure. Thanks to PSS, I knew when to seek urgent medical help and how to make the right choices in regards to my treatment. After 4 hospital stays and lots of different medications, I finally managed to take a turn for the better and eventually had a healthy and safe delivery. I believe @pregnancysicknesssupport deserves the extra funding because of the extremely important job they are doing – protecting expecting mothers, their babies and providing much needed information for this little known condition to sufferers like me. @thebiggiveorg #CC21mychoice #HGhero21″
